Classroom News:

Reading -  We continue our study of Lewis and Clark.  We are learning about what an incredibly difficult journey this was and are using maps to show the trail the expedition created.  The book contains some actual journal writings from both Lewis and Clark.  We discussed how these journal writings are primary sources.

Math - We continue our unit on subtraction.  Students did a nice job reviewing basic subtraction facts.  This week we will continue with more difficult problems and also subtract across zeroes.

A note about Morning Math Session:  Our first Morning Math will be this Thursday at 7:45.  Morning Math is every Thursday at 7:45 unless otherwise noted .  This is a time for third graders to come and play math games before school.  It isn't mandatory but  a fun way to practice math.  Ms. Beilharz still needs some help with bringing treats. Please email her if you are available to bring treats. gbeilharz@speds.org

Science - We are concentrating on one of Lewis and Clark's tasks- documenting new plants and animals seen in the Western territory for President Jefferson. The species they sent to him were shown in museums. People began to realize the west might be an intriguing, wonderful place to be!

Language - Several times a week the students are allowed to write creatively in their journals.  Usually the students are given some sort of topic. We will be using Lewis and Clark's journals as a model of descriptive journal writing. 

Behavior - We are entering our seventh week of school and the routines and rules have been discussed on a daily basis.  We are still have some trouble with students talking too much during lessons and traveling the hallways.  Please discuss with your child the importance of following the rules set by all teachers.  Also, it is always a good to reinforce appropriate chapel behavior.  We expect all third graders to participate in daily and all school chapel.  Thanks so much for your help!


Thank you to Zach and Mr. Abrahms for talking to Mrs. Barber's class about Rosh Hashanah.  They explained the importance of this holiday in the Jewish faith.
