Class News:

It was great meeting with all of you last week at conferences.  Thanks for your support!

Reading/Social Studies- This week we will read If I Traveled West in a Covered Wagon.  This non-fiction book has a lot of good information about what traveling was like on the Oregon Trail.  We will work on map skills using the Oregon Trail as a topic. During the Oregon Trail unit the students are given  a booklist to read about the trails independently.  They will read books provided from Mr. N and find interesting facts.

Math - We will continue working on the concept of multiplication this week.  Each student will write a Halloween multiplication story problem.  We will share these with the class and students will solve the problem.

Science - Continuing with our Sound Unit,  we will learn about audiologists and echolocation, we will attempt to make a simple musical instrument, (pan pipes) and we will spend some time on vocabulary. We will also watch and listen to a video on sound.

Language - This week our grammar focus will be abbreviations.  We will also continue reviewing singular and plural possessive nouns.  Our next writing project will be a historical fiction journal about like on the Oregon Trail.

Halloween - students can wear their costumes to school on Halloween.  Masks will stay in the cubby or backpack during chapel and throughout the day.  Please remember weapons that go along with a costume must be left at home.   Students can bring a change of clothes but can keep on their costumes if they aren't too distracting.  Grades 3-5 will watch a movie from 1:00-2:30 and then the party start at 2:30 and will finish at 3:15.
