Class News:

Reading/Language/Social Studies: This week we will focus on the behavior of the rainforest animal. We are also finishing up our layer papers.  We are reading Rainforest Secrets by Arthur Dorros.  This non fiction book is filled with great information about products from the rainforest, the different types of plants and animals, and deforestation.

Math: We will finish our unit on fractions this week by discussing equivalent fractions.  Toward the end of the week we will begin researching how much rain different cities get so we can make our rainfall graph. Most third graders are progressing nicely in their multiplication facts. This week we will focus on 0-9 facts.

Science: This week students will continue studying ecosystems, and in particular, food chains in the rainforest. They will learn about deforestation and the impact on life in the rainforest when trees are cut down.

Rainforest Construction: Thank you to: Tracy Gordon, Suzanne Raney, Allen Rostron, Dana Gould, Ann Long, Heather Feagans, and Laura Perin for helping to construct the rainforest.  We still need help to put it up this week so it is ready to go by next Tuesday.

Valentine's Day
The class parties are from 2:30-3:15 on Friday, 14 February. Your student should bring cards for everyone in his/her class, or if he/she wants to for everyone in both classes.First names should be written on the outside of the envelopes.  We will not make Valentine boxes at school so your child needs to bring either a decorated box/bag or a plain box/bag to collect his/her Valentines.

Liz will be at a conference on Tuesday and Wednesday.  If you need to send a message to school please email Gretchen and she will get the message to Stacey Rand who is substituting for Liz.
