Classroom Notes:
Reading - We continue our study of Lewis and Clark. We are very fortunate to have some KC Star magazines published several years ago which are devoted to Lewis and Clark. We encourage students to read these magazines to further enrich their own Lewis and Clark study. At third grade the students are encouraged to read to learn and share their knowledge with the class. We have had several students enrich the unit by bringing in items or books from home.
Math - The students will continue with subtracting large numbers this week and begin learning about money. Students learned that when we borrow in math we can only go to our next door neighbor. Students are often asked to explain how they get an answer. Being able to verbalize how to solve a math problem is a higher order thinking skill that helps students master the concept.
Science - We will finish our integrated unit on Lewis and Clark The students did a nice job categorizing different paw prints just like Lewis and Clark would have done. We will begin our unit on the bones of the body this week. The students will be expected to learn the important bones of the body. You can always practice memorizing these bones at home.
Revisiting Curriculum Night - We have decided to add some reminders that we went over on Curriculum Night!
*Remember... we will believe only 50% of what we hear happens at home if you believe only 50% of what happens at school. Please contact us sooner rather than later if you are hearing things that might seem suspicious. We have to work together to ensure each child has a good third grade year. We appreciate all the support we get from parents.
*Please remember to send a note if your child is leaving early. Sending a note leads to fewer distractions for all students.
