Class News
:

Reading - We continue to read If I Traveled West in a Covered Wagon.  This non-fiction book is filled with plenty of good information about life in a covered wagon.  The students also enjoy reading the many Westward Expansion books that Mr. N provided from the library.

Math - This week we continue to work with money and will begin telling time.  We will talk about elapsed time which can be a difficult skill for some students.  Please help your child with these skills at home.  We will have a money & time test next Tuesday, November 8.  A study guide will come home this week.

Science - Test over bones on Wednesday, November 2.

Other News:

 * Thursday, November 17  third graders will then spend the morning doing old-fashioned activities led by parent volunteers.  Then third Students will enjoy a lunch of foods that pioneers would have eaten.  We ask all students to dress as pioneers did on the Oregon Trail.  Girls of the 1850's would have worn long dresses or skirts, long sleeves, “sensible” shoes or boots, and maybe a bonnet.  Boys would have worn long pants/jeans, long sleeves, and “sensible” shoes or boots.  These costumes do not need to be brand new!  Be creative with what you already have – combinations of things we don't normally wear together very often do the trick!

*This week we have new homework.  Students are to choose 10 spelling words and look them up in the dictionary.  The students write down the two guide words for that spelling word.  We ask that third graders use student's dictionary because it makes it easier.  If you don't have an age appropriate dictionary then your child is allowed to bring one home from school.  We ask that students take home the dictionary on  Tuesday and return it on Wednesday so we can use them at school.

* Thank you for coming to parent/teacher conferences.  Please remember to contact us sooner rather than later if you have a concern.

*Thank you to Mr. Shawn Fox and Mr. Jim Roddy for reading to the classes today.  What fun to have readers on Halloween!

Let Your Imagination Soar: Read!  Mark your calendar and stop by the book fair Sunday November 6th from 11:00-3:00 in the gymnasium.  The Reading Reptile is providing us with a great selection of children’s and young adult books just in time for the holidays or to restock your home library.  Looking for a new gift idea?  Purchase a prepaid $10, $15 or $20 birthday book card and Mr. N will select a book to be donated to the library in honor of your child’s birthday during his/her birthday month, or purchase a teacher selected “wish book” that will be added to the library in your name.
