Class News:

Rainforest (Reading & Language) - we will begin our research this week.  Thank you to all the parents who helped their child look up information about their rainforest animal.  This week we will focus on the habitat of each animal.  We are also working on writing paragraphs about the four layers of the rainforest.  We read about the layers last week and will write about them this week.

Math - we are finishing our multiplication unit by working on finding the missing factor, multiplying more than 2 numbers, multiplying with 10, 100, & 1000, and multiplying  1 by 2 & 3 digits.  We are also working on memorizing our facts.  Thank you for all your help.  Remember: we expect the students to study at least 30 minutes a week.

Science - We congratulate the students for the fabulous job they did on their Space test!! We are very pleased with the progress the students are showing with their written responses. Thank you for supporting your child in their studies!

* There are two new pages on our blog.  One page recommends apps and websites to study multiplication facts and the other recommends rainforest websites.  This is a brief list so please don't feel limited by these websites and apps. You will find the pages on the right hand side of the blog.

From Administration - Outdoor Recess In Winter

Students will be going outside on a daily basis during the winter months, weather permitting, as we believe that even just a few minutes of fresh air is an important part of their overall growth and development here at school. To accommodate their well being and comfort, we ask that you make sure your child has the appropriate attire including coats, hats, gloves and boots.  The parameters we will use to decide inside or outside recess are the following:
·         When temperatures are below 32* freezing, with or without wind chill, recess times will be shortened.
·         When temperatures are below 20 degrees with or without wind chill, children will not go outside for recess.
·         If playground surfaces are unsafe due to the weather, children will not use that space until it is treated and deemed safe for student use. Alternate time and space will be found to be outside, even if only for a brief time.

* Since we have recess in the morning when it is colder, we will try to get the students outside for a recess in the afternoon if the weather cooperates.
