Class News:
Reading - We will finish our Lewis and Clark unit this week and begin our Oregon Trail unit. The students have worked hard to learn some interesting vocabulary words during this unit.
Math - We will work on subtraction this week. One little trick that Ms. Beilharz teaches when teaching regrouping/borrowing is that you can only borrow from your next door neighbor. You can never borrow from the neighbor down the street because it is too far away. Hopefully this might help if you are working with your child at home.
Science - Congratulations to all our scientists for completing their first unit successfully! Today we sampled the edible seed fare and dried fruit that Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery lived on during part of their journey. Coming up- our bones unit! We went and visited the garden today. We wrote a description of it and drew a picture.
Mahaffie Farms - We were so proud of your children and their behavior on the field trip. Both the leaders at Mahaffie Farm and the bus driver told us how well behaved the students were. We told the children how proud we were and we wanted to make sure you know, too. Also, thank you to the following parents who came along with us: Janet Greaves, Lori Schultz, Cindy Whitten,Emory's grandmother,Anne Bruso, Lesley Friskel, Kelly Heide.
Thank you to Mr. Roddy for reading to Mrs. Barber's class.
Buddies - the third graders have been asking when they will meet their buddies. Since the toddlers are so young we wait for the toddler teachers to initiate the activities. We will hopefully meet them very soon but have to respect the age of the toddlers.
Guide words - for the next couple of weeks we will be doing guide words as homework. The students need to use a student's dictionary for this activity. If they don't have a student's (children's) dictionary at home then they are welcome to bring one home from school.
