Class news:
Reading - We have started our Westward Expansion unit today. We will focus on the Oregon Trail, Santa Fe Trail, and California Trail during this unit. Most of our time will be on the Oregon Trail and pioneer life.
* On Tuesday, October 16 we will have our Pioneer Day. The students will spend the morning doing pioneer activities and then have a pioneer type lunch. We encourage all students to dress as pioneers. We don't expect you to buy a new outfit because usually something at home will work. The boys should wear jeans, boots, cowboy hat, and a plain shirt. The girls can wear a long skirt, apron, bonnet, and a blouse. Let us know if you have any questions. The room parents will be in contact about leading activities and bringing food. After lunch the students will barter things they bring from home. More information will be in next week's blog.
Math - Today we worked on the ipads doing subtraction. We are still working on subtracting with borrowing. This week's focus will be borrowing with a zero in the tens place.
* On Thursday we will begin Morning Math Session. This will be every Thursday at 7:45 unless otherwise notified. This is a very casual morning where the students play math games for 15 minutes. Its purpose is to instill the love of math in third graders. You don't need to sign up nor do you have to come every week.
Science - We are reading a human body book right now which focuses on bones, joints and muscles. We have decided we are indeed blessed to have opposable thumbs! We will continue with this book the remainder of the week.
Thank you to Mr. Angilan for reading to Ms. Beilharz's third grade class.
