Class News:
Reading - We are finishing up The Chocolate Touch. The rest of the week we will be working on some third grade reading skills using our reading series. Each class will work on different skills.
Math - We continue to work on geometry. Last week the students used geo boards to show some parallel lines, perpendicular lines, intersecting lines, angles, etc. This week we will focus more on polygons. We will work on quadrilaterals, triangles, and other shapes. Vocabulary focus this week: equilateral triangles, isosceles triangles, right triangle, scalene triangle, polygon, obtuse triangle, acute triangle, quadrilateral, plane figure.
Ms. Beilharz created some flashcards for last week's words and will create some for this week's words on Tuesday. You can study the words and also play games. She is trying to share this with the third grade class but isn't sure how this works. If this doesn't work then please let her know. Here is the information.

Science: Students will be finishing chapter fifteen this week which is the first of two chapters on space. I have asked the students to be watchful of the moon and its phases this month! We will have some fun with constellations to finish this chapter. Our test over chapter fifteen will be next Tuesday, April 9. It will cover the earth, moon and sun, rotations and revolutions, shadows, seasons and stars.
Homework Challenge: Third graders were assigned a homework challenge today. It is a book report jacket that is due Friday, April 26. The students will need to choose a fiction chapter book and follow the directions on the instruction sheet. We have provided the paper sack that the students will be using. This is a longer project and with the testing in the middle we want the students to have plenty of time to be creative. Please do not wait until the last week.
Literature Festival: This Friday we will be going to the Lit Fest at Rockhurst University. The third graders will see three authors this year. Make sure to check out Mr. N's blog for details.
Eucharist Chapel: Because we need to leave for the Literature Festival at 8:50, third graders will not be participating in Eucharist Chapel this Friday. We will have chapel with the first and second graders in the first floor commons.
