Class News:
Reading
We continue to read The Hundred Dresses and The Whipping Boy. Both these books deal with the subject of friendship and so we are discussing friendship at school and incorporating the life skills that we embrace daily. In addition to vocabulary activities, summarizing, and comprehension, we are doing various other fun activities with each book.
Math
This week in math we will work on rounding numbers to the
nearest 10s and 100s. We will continue to practice our vocabulary words
for this chapter. See last week’s blog for vocabulary words. Later
in the week we will use our rounding skills to estimate addition and
subtraction answers.
Ms. Beilharz was very pleased with the improvement on the
addition and subtraction basic skills tests last week. Keep working on
those addition and/or subtraction facts. Those students who have already
passed the basic facts need to work on the addition challenge sheets.
They can turn the sheets in on Friday or when they are finished. These
worksheets are to help those students keep the addition facts fresh in their
minds but to add a challenge.
Science
In our Plant Unit we will study How do new plants grow? and How are plants from the past like today's plants? In addition we will keep an eye on growth in our garden and do an investigation on how fast different kinds of seeds germinate. Thanks to all families who have signed up to water the garden. With the current temperatures we really do appreciate your help.Language Arts
In grammar we will learn how to combine sentences and how to correct run-on sentences.
We are on Lesson 2 in Wordly Wise and will work this week and next on this group of words. Today we are sending home the completed Lesson 1.Take a look at the different exercises we do, particularly the comprehension.
Thanks to all parents who came to Curriculum Night. If you weren't able to be there we sent your packet of information home with your student on Friday.
