Class News:

Reading/Social Studies:
This week we will continue to read If I Traveled West in a Covered Wagon.  This non-fiction book has a lot of good information about what traveling was like on the Oregon Trail.  We will work on map skills using the Oregon Trail as a topic. During the Oregon Trail unit the students are given  a booklist to read about the trails independently.  They will read books provided from Mr. N and find interesting facts. Already they are noticing that different writers have different perspectives and information about traveling on the trails in a covered wagon.

Math: This week we will continue looking at patterns in multiplication.  Please study the 2, 5, & 10 facts!  You can do this by working on flashcards, computer games, or worksheets.  Please look at the right hand side of the blog for ipad apps that are age appropriate. On Friday we graphed American flags and will send them to a veteran for Veterans Day.  Please send address of a Veteran by Tuesday morning.

Science:
This week we will complete our Sound Unit with some writing and illustrating in science spirals, review, and a vocabulary test. We will also spend some time in the garden weather permitting!

Homework Challenge
Book Report in a Bag
Due Monday, November 25
Procedure:

1.     Read a fiction book of your choice and when you are finished, complete this assignment.
2.    Begin to collect things for your Book Report in a Bag.  You will need a gallon-sized Ziploc bag.  Your Ziploc bag will be on display in our commons, so it will need to be able to hang on a bulletin board.
3.    Use the story elements chart to help you find items for your bag.  You will need to collect a total of 5 items, one item for each story element.  Be creative with your items.  You can use pictures, 3-D items, Lego’s, stickers, etc. to illustrate your items.  Remember, they must all fit inside a gallon-sized Ziploc bag.   You will use the items in your bag to retell the story to the class.
4.    After you have chosen your items, you will need to write a small description of what the item is, why you chose the item, and the item’s importance in the story.  Write this or type this on a small piece of paper and put it in your bag.  This can be written on one piece of paper, or 5 small pieces of paper.  This will help your audience understand your story.  Make sure you include the story element you are representing in your description.
5.    Put all items and descriptions in your bag.  Be sure to include the title of your book and the author, as well.
6.    You will need to turn in your Ziploc bag to share with the class.
