Class News:

Reading/Social Studies
This week and next, continuing our theme of Westward Expansion,  we will be reading The Pony Express and Sarah, Plain and Tall. The students are also working independently on their Oregon Trail Book list which is an activity to encourage everyone to read at his/her reading and interest level.

Math
This week we will start working on the concept of division.  We will talk about the three major vocabulary words in division: dividend, divisor, and quotient.  This week the third graders should continue working on 0-5 facts.  All of the students have passed the 10 facts.  Finally, if your student got an N on the vocabulary test, Ms. Beilharz is allowing your child to correct his/her mistakes and return it to her for a couple of extra points.  Please remember - a quiz is only one grade of many in the quarter.  One of the reasons we give tests/quizzes in third grade is to help develop study habits.  We know this is a new skill that many students struggle with at first.

Science
We continue the Human Body Unit studying bones, their composition, their purpose, their names, and then we will move on to muscles. We will probably try to make a model arm. Please send in cardboard tubes from paper towels as soon as possible. Once we have enough I will plan on incorporating this activity.

Language Arts
We will continue studying verbs, present tense, and subject - verb agreement. This unit also includes letter punctuation with greetings and closings.
We are also working on two writing activities, the Covered Wagon Journals and a verb poem.
This week we conclude lesson 5 in Wordly Wise with a spelling test on Friday.

Christmas Program
The 3rd through 5th grade Christmas Program is on Thursday, December 5th at 7p.m. Mrs. Everly sent out information last week. If the information did not make it home let us know and we will send it again.

Field Trip
We are delighted to have the opportunity to attend The Nutcracker on December 12. We will leave school at 9:45. If your child needs a school lunch that day it will be a sack lunch. Please have your orders to class teachers by December 5. Thank you, and a huge thank you to the Cultural Arts Committee for this wonderful opportunity.
