Class News:

Calling all volunteers!!! We need your help putting up the rainforest.  The trees are up and now we need to hang the leaves and then the vines.  You are allowed to come any time during the day except 8:20-8:45 when we have chapel in the commons.  A great time to come is right before afternoon carpool.  The time goes faster when you volunteer with a friend so call a friend and come to the second floor. The hanging of the leaves and vines does require climbing a ladder.  If you have a fear of heights then come with a friend who is willing to climb a ladder and you can help them.  The teachers will be here to help.  We need as many parents helping as possible.

Reading/Language/Social Studies: This week our focus will be on the habitat of the animals.  We are typing our paragraph about size and appearance during computer time.  We continue to work on our studying the four layers of the rainforest by reading and writing paragraphs.

Math: We continue to work on fractions.  This week we continue to place fractions on a number line. Many third graders are improving their multiplication facts score and time.  Thank you for all of your help.  This week we will study facts up to seven.


Science: We will continue with a section from our science textbook called Plants and Animals Living Together. We will learn about how environments change, and then touch briefly on what is a healthy environment for humans. After this we will learn about food chains.

Lunch and Learn – Tuesday, January 28^th from 12:00 – 1:00 PM

Communicating With Your Child – The 5 Love Languages!

In this session we will explore ways to enhance communication with your child using the 5 Love Languages. Learn some useful ways to maximize communication with your child. Jimmy Johns sandwiches provided or you are welcome to bring your own lunch. Child care provided upon request for a small fee.

The Curriculum Design at St. Paul’s – Tuesday, February 4^th at 4:00 PM

Come hear from the PLC (Professional Learning Community) about the curriculum review process taking place across all divisions. Members of the PLC will provide an overview of the curriculum design process as well information about Common Core, Math and Language Arts essential learning outcomes, and 21^st Century learning objectives. We hope you will join the PLC to hear more about this exciting process taking place at St. Paul’s.

Bill Severns Returns! – Tuesday, February 11^th at 4:00 PM

Author and coach, Bill Severns returns to share his thoughts on what children truly seek and need through their involvement in team sports. Bill shares valuable insights and life lessons through his engaging, true stories gathered from his own life experiences as a professional baseball player and little league coach. Bill was a hit when he came to St. Paul’s the first time and we are pleased that he has agreed to come again and help us kick off our spring sports season. Bill’s book, Keepers of the Sandlot, is available for checkout through Mrs. Van Thullenar or can be purchased at www.keepersofthesandlot.com.
