 Reading - We continue to read In Their Own Words: Lewis and Clark. We are keeping a timeline of the major events happening in this book.
 We are on the fourth lesson in Wordly Wise.  The third graders are progressing nicely in this vocabulary series.  For each lesson we do all four parts of the book along with writing the words in sentences.

Math - we will finish our unit on addition and subtraction this week.  Students will be tested on their basic addition and subtraction facts.  Other students will be sent home with a challenge paper to practice harder addition and subtraction problems.

Science- This week we continue with our Sound Unit. We will conduct an experiment to demonstrate and understand how sound travels. We will also learn how sound is absorbed and reflected, and what noise pollution is. Hopefully we will also get some gardening done this week.

Language - We will continue to work on nouns this week.  We will work on singular and plural nouns.  We are writing poems to go along with the witches we created last week. In grammar we are practicing applying what we have learned in the jingles when classifying (or diagramming) sentences. The students are learning to ask specific questions for each part of speech.

On Friday, October 10 the third grade will be going to Mahaffie Farm in Olathe.  We will leave right after all school chapel and return at 2:30. Your child will need a cold lunch unless you ordered one from school.  Please send a cold lunch with your child that includes a drink and utensils.  Also, please check the weather and dress your child appropriately.  We will be outside all day so layering and comfortable shoes are a good idea.
