Important Rainforest Dates:

Rainforest - We continue to research our animals.  Third graders are working hard on finding interesting information about their animals. They have now gathered information on the size and appearance of their animal and its habitat. This week we will study the food and food chain of each rainforest animal.  We started typing our papers in computer lab last week, and will continue with that this week. Students will also continue to work on their layers of the rainforest paper this week. One ongoing assignment in this rainforest unit is independent reading of books about the rainforest and the recording of facts from these books. This is an important component of the unit and one in which we differentiate instruction. 


Math - On  Tuesday  students will have their division test.  On Monday we will use the laptops to create our bar graphs of the amount of rainfall in the rainforest and United States cities.  The third graders continue to progress on their multiplication and division facts tests.  The division tests will be 0-12. We will begin our unit on fractions this Wednesday.  


Science -This week we continue studying food chains, how living things compete, and how environments change. Students will research some food chains in the rainforest and each student will write about and illustrate the food chains they choose.

Grammar -  We will continue classifying/diagrammimg sentences including prepositions, object of the preposition, prepositional phrases, and out latest addition is pronouns. Our sentences are becoming increasingly complex!

Valentine's Day -  Each student should bring cards either for everyone in her/his class or for everyone in 3rd grade. Please have your students put names on the envelopes to ensure everyone is included. Students can bring a decorated box for Valentines from home or a brown paper grocery bag. We will not have time to make boxes as we are fully occupied with our rainforest studies.

The annual Pancake Breakfast will be held February 17 in the school cafeteria from 7:00 - 8:30 a.m.  This breakfast, sponsored by the 8th grade, serves as a fundraiser for the school and culminates in a class gift presentation during the graduation ceremony in May.
