Important Rainforest Dates:

Thursday & Friday, February 12 & 13 Rainforest Animals due (Please do not send them in early because we don't have space)
Tuesday, March 3 11:30-1:00 Rainforest Open House

Rainforest - this week we will be studying the behavior of each animal.  The third graders are more than half way through with their research.  We are also reading Planet Earth:Wild Amazon book which has beautiful pictures and a lot of great facts about the Amazon Rainforest. We will also finish our layer paper.  Next week we will start our poetry books.  

Thank you to: Michelle Decicco, Amy Holewinski, Kristie Brinton, Jen Jones, and Kelly Groebl for helping with the rainforest.  We still need some volunteers to put up the vines.

A big thank you to Jill and Hannah Woolley and Jack and John Bartlett for sharing their experiences of their trips to the rainforest.  

Math - We have started our fraction unit.  This week we will work on finding the fractional parts of a set.  For example, what is 1/4 of 12?  We will also work on plotting fractions on a number line.

Science
Students will continue to work on their rainforest food chains and webs paper and will also learn about deforestation. Each student needs one toilet paper tube for a rainforest project. 

Rainforest Addresses - By Thursday, please send addresses of the people you would like to invite to the Rainforest Open House on Tuesday, March 3.We will be addressing invitations on Thursday & Friday.  It helps if you send the addresses electronically so the students can easily read the addresses. 

 Valentine's Day -  Each student should bring cards either for everyone in her/his class or for everyone in 3rd grade. Please have your students put names on the envelopes to ensure everyone is included. Students can bring a decorated box for Valentines from home or a brown paper grocery bag. We will not have time to make boxes as we are fully occupied with our rainforest studies. 

The annual Pancake Breakfast will be held February 17 in the school cafeteria from 7:00 - 8:30 a.m.  This breakfast, sponsored by the 8th grade, serves as a fundraiser for the school and culminates in a class gift presentation during the graduation ceremony in May.
