Class News:
Reading - We are reading The Whipping Boy by Sid Fleischman. This Newberry Award winning book is a great adventure of two boys and their road to friendship.
Math - this week we will be finishing up fractions and moving on to harder multiplication problems. From this point forward every student will be taking a basic math facts test. Once a student passes both multiplication and division test then they will take a combination test of multiplication and division problems. This should help with any regression in basic facts. The third graders were shown a copy of the test which has 100 multiplication and division problems. The goal is to improve each week and not necessarily to get all 100 problems finished in 3 minutes.
Science - We are concluding our chapter on "Patterns in the Sky", writing up a step by step explanation of making a model of the Big Dipper which we did on Friday, then we will move on to a unit on The Solar System.
Language - We are working on our explanatory writing piece at school. These will be turned into speeches and students will give those speeches the week of April 13.
We are progressing with grammar and learning how to diagram sentences including our newest part of speech, the possessive pronoun adjective.
