Reading:
This week we will be reading Charlotte's Web, and discussing it, learning new vocabulary, learning about characters and character traits. Everyone seems to be enjoying this novel (including the teachers)!
Math: The geometry test is on Wednesday. We will be reviewing in class on Monday and Tuesday. The end of the week we will work on line plots. The last math facts test of the year is this Friday.
Language:
We continue to work on pronouns.
In grammar we are learning the conjunction jingle, and classifying sentences for practice.
Social Studies - we will continue to work on the three branches of government, and will continue with some more map work practice.
Science:
We will begin a new unit on Simple Machines, starting with the question "what makes things move?" Students will learn about Newton who discovered that a still object will remain still unles a force acts on it, and that a moving object will keep moving unless a force acts on it.They will learn about inclined planes, levers, wheels and axles, pulleys, and wedges.
All students did well on the Solar System test, and if you are in school looking at your student's writing, take a minute to look at their model scale drawings of the planets.
Field Day:
It is hard to believe that Field Day is just around the corner!
Mrs. S and Mr. Kurt are planning a great day of activities for our 3rd-8th grade students to enjoy on Tuesday, May 19. As a special treat for our 3rd-5th grade students, parents are invited to join them for parent/child activities at 11:00 am. We also want to invite you to come and join us for a picnic lunch on the lawn.
Put on your sunglasses and bring your favorite picnic blanket! Lunch options include:
- Pack a picnic lunch for yourself and/or your children, or grab your favorite take-out lunch on your way to the school.
- Sign up for a hotdog lunch through the school. Students will sign up for hot lunch with their class as normal, but parents need to pre-order their lunch by clicking here. To ensure we have enough food prepared for students and guests, guest lunches will not be available unless pre-ordered.
