Class News:

Reading and Social Studies:

This week students will begin their journey through the Pioneer Days.  Students will begin reading and learning about the 3 major trails: Oregon and California Trail and the Santa Fe Trail.  Students will identify these major routes of travel on the map and also in our new reading books. We will have a class book that we will read together and students will also have access to a variety of books from the library, all detailing life in Pioneer Days.

Math:

Last week in math we worked with how multiplication and repeated addition are closely related.  This week students are learning about the array and how this model helps to illustrate the concept of multiplication.  Students will creating an “Array City” from various models of multiplication facts.  They will also work with matching the repeated addition, array, and multiplication fact together, and creating this new model with paint and cereal.  On Friday, students will take a quiz over the material we have learned so far: Repeated addition facts to represent multiplication and the Array Model.

Science:
This week we continue with our Sound Unit, learning about how we speak and hear, noise pollution, and different types of musical instruments.

Language Arts:

Students will complete their personal narratives if they have not already done so this week. They will also learn about run on sentences as well as singular and plural nouns. In Grammar we continue learning the jingles and classifying/diagraming sentences. Students should now be able to identify the subject, verb, adverbs, adjectives, article adjectives, complete subject, and complete predicate in addition to knowing the four types of sentences! This week students are learning about the preposition, object of the preposition, and prepositional phrase. Students are now able to write their own "guided sentences", labeling them with the correct parts of speech.

Wordly Wise:
Students do have a new set of Wordly Wise words for this week.  We will study these words this week and test over them on Wednesday of next week.
