Class News:
Reading:
This week
we are reading chapters 5-7 in The House
Without a Christmas Tree. Students
are learning quite a bit of new and difficult vocabulary in this story. We are also doing a lot of text-to-self comparisons. The story takes place in the 1940s and the
main character lives in a small town. Students
are working on imagery skills, summarizing, making inferences, and predictions.
Math:
This week we are working on
multiplying by 8 and 9. Students will
also be working with story problems and connecting their previous lessons on
arrays and repeated addition to their newly learned multiplication facts. Students will have a math quiz on 9’s on
Thursday.
Social Studies:
Christmas Around the World - This is our Social Studies unit during December. Third
graders will study Christmas customs in different countries. Most of this
will be completed at school but your child may need a little bit of help with
certain activities.
Science:
Students will take their "Bones Test" on Tuesday, then we will conclude the Human Body Unit with a brief look at the Circulatory System, the importance of exercise, and the frozen man, the iceman found in 1991 but dating back over 5,000 years.
