Reading:
This week students begin reading a new novel,The House Without A Christmas Tree by Gail Rock. Students will focus on plot, characters,settings, vocabulary, and practice summarizing.
Math:
This week we will be working on multiplying by 7 and 8. Please work on these facts with your child at home, in the car, with flash cards, ipads, etc. All the extra practice really shows during classroom work and assignments. Students have also been working on the app "Flash to Pass." This app has addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. You can change the difficulty from levels 1-5 and you can also pick just one fact family to work on. The app also times the students for each game and allows students to track their progress each time they replay a game. This app is helpful for all grade levels and any student in your household.

Christmas Around the World - This is our Social Studies unit during December. Third graders will study Christmas customs in different countries. Most of this will be completed at school but your child may need a little bit of help with certain activities.
Science:
Students will continue to learn about the human body, studying joints and muscles this week. There will be a test over the names of bones on Tuesday, December 8th. Students have a study guide, and it has also been emailed to parents.
Language Arts:
We will continue learning about possessive nouns, combining sentences, and abbreviations.
In grammar the new concept for students this week is identifying when there is an understood subject pronoun. In writing students will learn about similes and will write some of their own.

Hello Parents,
Our Christmas program is right around the corner. We will celebrate the season together on Thursday evening, December 3rd at 7:00 p.m. Students should plan to arrive at 6:45 p.m. to meet their home room teachers in the undercroft of the church. Before leaving your child in the Undercroft please make sure a teacher is present. Teachers will not arrive before 6:30pm.
Dress should be nice, church-type clothing in CHRISTMAS COLORS –any jewel tones you see in Christmas lights are great. Ladies – dresses or skirts and tops/sweaters, slacks outfits, anything festive, and Gentlemen – slacks and a Christmas colored sweater or shirt.
Our final joint rehearsals will be in the church Nov 30, Dec. 1 and Dec. 2 – 8:45am-11:15am. Please avoid pulling students out during these rehearsals if at all possible. We have a very limited schedule to work with all three grade levels and want to have the students feel very prepared!
***Please note: 3rd graders will need one Winter prop for part of their program – i.e. a scarf, a hat, a fun headband, elf ears, etc….anything festive.

Third
Graders will go to The Nutcracker. Third graders should dress nicely
to go to The Kauffman Center. Your child will need to bring a cold
lunch or order a sack lunch from the school by Friday, December 4. We will eat these when we return to school.
Tuesday - Thursday, December 15- 17 Secret Santa - Third graders will be participating in a Secret Santa activity in our classrooms.Please have your child bring 3 small gifts, one for each day for this special activity. The TOTAL cost of all three gifts should not exceed more that $6.00.
Names will be drawn on December 10 and will be kept
a secret until the final day on Thursday, December 17. Girls will draw from girls’ names and boys
will draw from boys’ names. Each class will choose from names in their own class.
