This week in math we will finish up our geometry unit. We will review on Tuesday and Wednesday and then we will have a short quiz from the book on Thursday. If students would like to practice for this quiz they can review chapter 11 in their math book and pages 298-299, the practice test in their book.
Language Arts and Grammar:
This week students will begin working on lesson 13 of Wordly Wise and will test over these words on Friday, April 29.
Students will be writing a demonstration speech this week. These demonstrations will happen later in April. Please talk with your student about this speech, because students will be writing this speech, then presenting it and demonstrating whatever skill/craft/art/topic they have chosen.
In our Shurley Grammar program students are learning about conjunctions, their role in sentences, and compound subject nouns, compound subject pronouns, and compound verbs.

This week students will begin reading Charlotte's Web, written by E.B. White. Although many students have either read the book or have seen the movie already, we always find many skills to work on with this wonderful book that is filled with rich vocabulary and fascinating characters.
Science:
This week in science students will complete a scavenger hunt on the Solar System and will take a test. They will begin scale drawings of the planets. This involves learning about scale, ratio, and relative size as well as using a compass to draw a circle. They will also garden on Tuesday, weather permitting. Last week students prepared the two plots that we have in the community garden. Third grade will take care of them until the summer, then summer camp will take resposibility.
Social Studies - Students will continue their study of the three branches of government.
