Class News:
Reading - We continue to read The Best Christmas Pageant. The students love the hilarious antics of the Herdman children. Each class is making life size Herdman characters. We love to see the third graders idea of what the Herdmans look like.
Math - we continue to work on division. This week we will relate multiplication and division. We have started taking quizzes on our multiplication facts. The students will start with 0-5 facts and then work up to all the facts. Ms. Beilharz stressed to them that the goal is to improve each week and not that everyone has the same score. Please contact Ms. Beilharz if these quizzes are too stressful for your child. We can work out a plan.
Science - this Friday is the sound test. The test is over the vocabulary sent home last week. It will also cover Chapter 14. This covers pages 385-401. The Chapter Review and Test Prep on pages 406-407 is important to study.
Thank you to Dr. Albracht, Mr. Heide, and Mr. Moreland for reading to the third grade classes this week. A VERY belated thank you to Mr. Morris for reading to the third grade class before Thanksgiving.
Secret Santa - On December 18,19,20 third graders will be participating in a Secret Santa activity in our classrooms. Please have your child bring 3 small gifts, one for each day for this special activity. The TOTAL cost of all three gifts should not exceed more that $5.00. Names will be drawn this week and will be kept a secret until the final day on Thursday, December 20. Girls will draw from girls’ names and boys will draw from boys’ names.
Holiday party - it is a tradition in third grade that during our Christmas party we do a service project as our craft. The room parents have decided to make book marks to go along with the books we will donate to Reach Out and Read program through KU Medical Center. They are asking each third grader to bring in 1-3 gently used books to donate. During the party we will make a book mark to go in each book. The students can bring the books anytime between today and Friday, December 21. Here is some more information about the program.

Recess - We will try to go outside as much as possible during cold weather. Please make sure your child has hat, gloves, and a coat for recess. If it snows we may go outside so snow boots or an extra pair of shoes is always a good idea.
Lost and Found - There are many clothing items in the lost and found on the first and second floors. If you are in the school you might take a look to see if any of these items belong to your family. If they aren't claimed before Christmas we will donate them to a charity.
