A huge thank you to Beth McDowell for coming to talk to the students about sound. She did a great experiment with hangers and other tools to demonstrate pitch. We welcome any parent to come share your expertise with the third graders. If we are covering a subject you are knowledgeable about then please contact us and we will set up a time.
Thank you to Dr. Eric Friskel for reading to the third graders.
Secret Santa - Third graders will participate in Secret Santa Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Please bring one gift for each day. The recipient's name needs to be on the package somewhere. On Thursday morning we will find out who was our Secret Santa. Please do not spend more than $5.00 for all three gifts.
Ice skating - On Friday we will leave right after chapel to go ice skating at Line Creek in North Kansas City. We will skate until 11:00 and then come back to eat lunch. Hot lunch will be an option. Your child is welcome to bring his/her own skates to the rink. Also, they can bring up to $5.00 to buy a snack at the ice rink.
Christmas party - please don't forget to send gently used books in for our Christmas party. We will be donating them to KU Medical Center. (See last week's blog for details.)
Reading - Have you've been to the second floor to see the life size Herdmans? The third graders created these wonderful characters in groups. We will finish The Best Christmas Pageant Ever this week and then watch the movie.
Rainforest animals - When we return from Christmas break we will be choosing rainforest animals. We will probably choose the animals on Thursday so the third graders can get some resources over the weekend. Please start discussing the size of animal you are willing to help your third grader make. We will provide more details after Christmas. If you look on the right hand side of the blog there are some good rainforest websites.
