Class News:

Reading - We will finish The Hundred Dresses and Third Grade Angels this week.  As part of our reading program the students are encouraged to  find vocabulary words that they don't know in their daily reading and look up the definition.  We keep the index cards in our vocabulary pouch and add to the pouch each week.  The students are doing a nice job with this task.

Math - This week we are focusing on our vocabulary words as well as adding and subtracting with regrouping.  The vocabulary words we are focusing on are: addends, sum, Commutative Property of Addition, Associative Property of Addition, Identity Property of Addition, difference, fact family, estimate, compatible numbers, and equation.  We will also be taking our second basic addition or subtraction test this week.

Science - This week we will conclude our unit on plants by reading How Plants from the Past are like Today's Plants... We will do an experiment with seeds and some review too.There will be a test over the unit on Tuesday, September 23. The test will be mostly multiple choice with a couple of questions requiring written answers. Each student has a review sheet and I would recommend rereading the textbook pages, Unit A, Chapter 1. You can access the textbook online.

Language Arts - We will continue writing the personal narratives, and continue with grammar jingles and classifying sentences.

LifeTouch Photos-

Sept. 16^th for 1st-8th and Tuesday Toddlers

We are using on-line ordering for individual and class photos.

(Your child will be in the yearbook, even if you choose not to order any of the photo reprints.)

There are 3 ways to order. With this format there are more options, such as your choice of backgrounds, personalizing the photos, and so on.

a     Pre-order on-line www.mylifetouch.com

b    Pre-order using the payment envelope attached to the flyer

c     Wait until there are proof photos and order from those (this choice has fewer options and the cost is a bit more).

     If you pre-order, there are more options and the cost is lower. (Be sure to bring in the pre-order PICTURE PASS-your child will need this for the photographer-homeroom teachers will be collecting them prior to or on picture day.)

·        Please keep the LifeTouch flyer handy - it has the information that you will need to complete the ordering process.

·        Class photos are part of the picture packets and your child will be featured in the center (larger) of the composite and the rest of the class and teachers will be around the edges.  These will not be printed until after make-up day, so no one will be missing from the class photos.

Pet Blessing:

The Pet Blessing will take place on the upper field at 8:30 on Friday, September 19^th. While live animals are welcome in all grade levels, stuffed animals and pictures of your pets are also encouraged. Parents or other caregivers are responsible for bringing live animals directly to the field following carpool, live animals are not allowed inside the school building for obvious reasons. Please be conscious of how well your pet handles loud, stressful environments, and be considerate of the school community and clean up after your pet. Parents and caregivers are asked to remain with the class during the event. For safety reasons, students need to stay with their classes as they travel to and from the field. If you do need to leave the field with your child for some reason, you must inform your child’s teacher prior to leaving and plan on meeting them back in the classroom.
