Reading - We continue to read The Hundred Dresses and Third Grade Angels. Both of these books have a theme of being kind to one another and are mostly set in schools. There are many life lessons in these two books which is why we read them at the beginning of the year. We will continue working on vocabulary, summarizing, comprehension, and reading fluency.
Language Arts - We will continue writing personal narratives this week, having discussed what personal narratives are, having read examples, and having brainstormed possible topics. We continue learning the grammar jingles including the adjective jingle this week, and classifying sentences.
We will also be working on subjects and predicates in sentences.
Math - Monday and Tuesday we will finish our rounding unit. We will focus on rounding to the nearest dollar. Our next unit will be addition and subtraction. All third graders will take a pretest before this unit so Ms. Beilharz can differentiate instruction to meet the needs of the students. Our problem solving strategy we will work on this week is guess and check. We continually review the other problem solving strategies we have learned. The strategies we have focused on up to this point are: logical reasoning, making a table or chart, making an organized list, draw a picture or diagram.
Science - The students have worked hard in our community garden plots to weed and clear the plots for planting. Weather permitting we will plant seeds and possibly bulbs this week. In addition we will continue learning about plants, in particular how plants are grouped and how new plants grow. Students will also work on a venn diagram comparing and contrasting grasses and trees.
