Class
News:
Reading
and Social Studies:
Students
continue their journey through the Pioneer Days. Students will focus on
the Oregon Trail. Students are reading If I Traveled West in
a Covered Wagon. This non fiction book tells about life on the Oregon
Trail, and students will learn about what pioneers took with them, who
went, who was in charge, and hardships on the journey. Mr. N. provides
books from the library about pioneer life. Third graders will read these
books independently, writing down interesting facts as they read. Students will
also study an Oregon Trail Timeline, learning how to read it accurately.
Math:
This week in math we
will focus on reviewing our multiplication facts for 0, 1, and 2. Students will also begin working on facts for
5’s, 10’s, and 3’s. Students will have a
quiz on Thursday over the multiplication facts 0, 1, 2, 5, and 10.
Science:
We are finishing our Sound Unit, and there will be a test on Tuesday, November 10. This will be a vocabulary test, where students match 20 vocabulary words to their definitions. Students will bring home a glossary of terms.

Language Arts:
Students will continue learning about plural
nouns as well as common and proper nouns. In grammar we continue learning the
jingles and classifying/diagraming sentences. Students should now be able to
identify the subject, verb, adverbs, adjectives, article adjectives, complete
subject, and complete predicate in addition to knowing the four types of
sentences! This week students are learning about the preposition, object of the
preposition, and prepositional phrase. Students are now able to write their own
"guided sentences", labeling them with the correct parts of speech.
We will continue the writing project writing from the perspective of a child traveling the Oregon Trail.

Students will take a break from Wordly Wise and study theme words for spelling this week. Students were given the new list of words today, Monday. The test for these words will be this coming Friday,
November 6th.
