RAINFOREST NEWS:
The rainforest is looking wonderful. Many thanks to our two Cristo Rey students who have assembled the rainforest in the commons. Thank you to you all for making such incredible animals for the rainforest. It is amazing to see them all in their habitat! A huge thank you to the parents who have positioned the animals in the forest. They spent several hours doing that.
The students will learn facts about each others' animals this week, then start giving tours next week to other students in the school. If a student has siblings and/or cousins he/she will have the opportunity to give them a tour.
Invitations to the Open House on Tuesday, March 1 from 11:30-1 have been mailed. We do not mail these to you. We know you will be there!
If anyone is unable to come to the Open House we can schedule tours at other times. Just ask us.

Class News:
Language Arts, Reading, Social Studies:
Students continue to work on their rainforest animal research paper. This week we are working on other interesting facts of their animal, an introduction and conclusion, and a cover page. Students will also be busy typing their reports. In reading students are engaged in reading independent rainforest resource books. Students will work on lesson 9 Wordly Wise spelling wordsand exercises. Students continue their work on illustrating the Layers of the Rainforest project and writing sentences about each layer.Students will continue working on their rainforest poetry.
Math :
We continue with our unit on telling time. Students worked last week on elapsed time. This is a difficult topic for many students. Please continue to work on this at home. Students can practice counting time between activities, telling you the “end time” of an activity when given the start time and the length of the activity. For example, we started dinner at 5:30 and dinner lasted 45 minutes. What time is it now?
Science :
In science this week students will work to finish their folders for the Rainforest Open House. This includes illustrating a rainforest food web or three food chains. In addition students will learn about deforestation, and they will write a paragraph about that. We will also review the many products that come from the rainforest.
